Ambivalence

Ambivalence is an autobiographical piece which draws upon my own personal experiences living with psychosis and as a black queer woman navigating through the world. As if entwined between the lines of a diary we peek into the internal monologue as I attempt to figure out my new reality and society's triggers.
‘ Ambivalence’ began as an eight minute solo as a final year solo project at drama School under the name of Impetus. As years have past I've been able to develop the piece, now ‘Ambivalence’ which expanded to a thirty minute solo aerial theatre show, supported by Jackson’s Lane and performed at The Place. and most recently commissioned by All in he Mind festival to make a short digital version.
In light of the Covid 19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement I have begun to question my identity and what I stand for as a black British queer woman. I am excited by the opportunity to revisit ‘Ambivalence ’ in light of the current climate of empowering black culture and challenging white privilege.
I have continued to develop it into a bigger ‘identity’ piece which addresses my whole identity and the complicated layers of truth, reality, sexuality and honesty.
